TRIO ASIA

TRIO ASIA Poster Design Exhibition

The Power of Posters: A Call for Peace
The Resonance of the Asian Poster Trio

Those who live in times of peace may not fully understand the value of peace or appreciate its existence. Yet, on our shared planet, we are currently facing significant conflicts, including the Russo-Ukrainian War and the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, alongside various other wars around the world, or situations shrouded in the looming threat of war.

The International Poster Biennial in Mexico (BICM) has long promoted international dialogue in poster design. Each edition features specially curated thematic exhibitions, establishing itself as a platform for advocating diverse global values. In 2024, Professor Lin Pan-Song from Taiwan led a delegation to participate in the biennial. In a bid to raise awareness against the threat of war worldwide, he organized the "Trio Asia: A Peace Poster" exhibition, inviting Japanese curator Akio Ogawa and South Korean curator Yoo Yoon-ho to collaborate. Together, they invited 100 designers from their respective countries to contribute 100 works focused on the theme of "peace." Additionally, a special lecture was held at the Queretaro Art Center to introduce the concept behind "Trio Asia Peace Poster," exploring how poster design can advocate for peace while showcasing Taiwan's design and cultural history. This exhibition reflects the collective belief of Asian designers in promoting global peace. The participating designers range in age from over 90 years to those in their 30s, representing sixty years across different generations. Through 100 thematic posters centered on "peace," they illustrate the power of poster design and convey a heartfelt message from three Asian nations—an aspiration for global unity and the pursuit of peace as a universal human value.

International Poster Biennial in Mexico (BICM)

The International Poster Biennial in Mexico (BICM) has been established since 1990 and has over 30 years of history. It ranks among the top five poster exhibitions worldwide, alongside the Lahti International Poster Triennial, the International Poster Biennale in Warsaw, the International Poster Triennial in Toyama, and the United States International Poster Biennial. It is also one of the three major biennials globally.

This exhibition calls together international poster designers every two years and hosts the IDA Congress in the same interval. To date, it has amassed a collection of over 40,000 posters from around the globe and regularly organizes long-term exhibitions in Mexico, as well as publishing annual catalogs and design books.
